What a fantastic weekend of Golf on the Gold Coast! The third GOLF Link Challenge was hosted in sunny
Queensland between the 24th and 26th July and it was team 'Luv Golf' who ran out Champions, led by the
final round charge of Wayne Kirby (Sanctuary Cove) who also took out the Individual honors.
Royal Pines played host to all the competitors and their stunning Hotel also provided the base and
backdrop for Day 1, players were treated to the Ladies Australian Masters course and what a course it
is, currently set up in perfect condition. Day 2 saw players move across to the Greg Norman designed;
Glades Golf & Spa and then the final putts were sunk on Day 3 at the Jack Nicklaus designed; Lakelands Golf Club.
Players came from Western Australia, Northern Territory, NSW and Queensland, handicaps ranged from 4 to 32
and all players had their sights set on becoming the third GOLF Link Challenge Champion. The weekend was
played in great spirits and players enjoyed the warm weather, delicious food and relaxed atmosphere.
Special thanks to Team Spackler who competed for the second time, having also played in our first ever
Challenge at Kooindah Waters.
Consistency proved the key as Gold Coast local 'Wayne Kirby' put together rounds of 35, 35 and 39 to set
a new Individual record of 109 points. Wayne was chased all the way by 'Tarina Foote' from NSW's
Manly Golf Club and both players managed to lower their handicap over the course of the weekends play.
Team Luv Golf broke the team scoring record by a stunning 44 points as they combined to run away with
the title. The team was a combination of two couple who were paired together at random although I'm
sure firm friends by the end of the weekend. Wayne and Clare Kirby, both from Sanctuary Cove joined
with Anthony and Mo Reardon from Terry Hills in NSW, led from day 1 and played excellent golf from
start to finish – very worthy Challenge Champions.
The weekends final big winner was Glenn Hoffmann of the 'Territory Mob' who together travelled
from Alice Spring to compete. Glenn had his name drawn at random and as customary at GOLF Link Challenge events,
was rewarded with his entrance fee of $649 back! Glenn's trip to Queensland was on GOLF Link and
we are delighted to have met him and the Territory guys.
The GOLF Link Challenge will now gear up for our return to NSW and the 4th SOLD OUT event, early
September will see another group of avid golfers come together, this time at the countries Number 1
Golf Resort – Bonville, we look forward to meeting all the new players and seeing who will become
the next GOLF Link Challenge Champion?!
