RACV Royal Pines, Lakelands and The Glades

6th - 8th August 2010

The first weekend of August saw golfers from across Australia gathered on Queensland’s Gold Coast to compete for the 6th GOLF Link Challenge – our second Challenge event of 2010. Players arrived and were treated to perfect blue skies, lush green fairways and slick putting surfaces. Hosted at RACV Royal Pines with rounds also included on the Jack Nicklaus designed Lakelands and Greg Norman designed Glades, the scene was set for a great weekend’s golf.

As is customary in GOLF Link Challenge events, players compete each day with a different member of their team and a two ball from another team. It was great to see that this year’s field of 59 included 21 ladies and it was Janet Yang from the La Trobe Golf Club in Melbourne who set the round one pace with a solid 40 points at Lakelands. High scores on day two from Graeme Hutchinson (Logan Golf Club, QLD) and Jan Doyle (Concord Golf Club, NSW) saw them move into the lead going into the final round and after a tight third round at RACV Royal Pines, it was the Queenslander Graeme Hutchinson that prevailed as our 6th Individual Challenge Champion!

The team event was just as close with Team Arundel setting the early pace before being passed on day two at The Glades by the in-form Travmans Team from Coffs Harbour Golf Club in NSW. Manly Mayhem, last year’s runner up team at this event, put together a final round charge that was lead by Denise Catling’s best of the day 42 points - but nobody could prevent the Travmans Team from being crowned champions and taking home the GOLF Link Challenge trophies.

After a great weekend of golf on the Gold Coast we would like to thank all players that joined us and made the event so enjoyable and competitive, special thanks to players from teams Manly Mayhem, the Mitchell Group and Awesome Foursome who also played in the Hunter Valley Challenge this June.

Our third Challenge event of 2010 will be held in late November at the Hamilton Island Golf Club, keep an eye on the website for further details…
