A TERRIFIC field of 100 golfers teed it up at the magnificent Pacific Harbour Golf and Country Club for the first Queensland event in the 2014/15 Golf Link Race to Bonville series.
A warm day greeted golfers and while early morning conditions were ideal for great scoring, the wind quickly picked up and played havoc on a very testing layout. The tight scrub-lined fairways combined with deep fairway bunkers made the going tough. The greens, with their many undulations and tricky pins, added to the challenge. It was both a physical and mental challenge. Congratulations to all who participated and well done to those who had 30+ points - a great achievement in the conditions.
Brendan Bouton (C Grade) was the overall winner on the day with an impressive 44 points. Brendan won some terrific prizes from our wonderful sponsors including a Cobra Puma Golf bag and free entry to play in the State Final to be played at Brookwater Golf Club. Our A Grade winner was Nathan Flint with 40 Points and Stephen Walker beat Jamie Effting in B Grade on a count back with 37 Points.

The Golf Buddy Nearest The Pin was chosen as the picturesque 7th hole, appropriately named ‘Sawgrass’. It is modelled on the island green 17th hole at the TPC course played on the US PGA Tour.
Michael Brown won the Golf Buddy GPS unit with a terrific approach shot to 94cm. An excellent result as the hole was playing downwind and the pin was tucked on the front of the green just a few meters away from the water.
The Cobra Puma Go Looong Challenge was held on the 11th hole, and was well won by Bradley Goss (244m) and Annie Tozer (163m). An impressive effort just to keep the ball on this fairway with a very strong crosswind – well done to our long drive winners!
Despite the difficult playing conditions, the vibe in the clubhouse stayed positive after the game. Golfers enjoyed lunch with their playing partners, with many flicked through their free copy of Golf Magazine looking through the instructional pages trying to work out where it all went wrong!
The good news is that there are four remaining qualifying rounds to be played in Queensland in the 2014/2015 Race Series. This will provide all golfers with plenty of opportunity to earn additional Order of Merit points and qualification into the State Final.
The next event will be held at North Lakes Golf Club on Sunday November 23.
