This week on GOLF Link HOT TOPICS:
Common Errors when sending Competitions
We will be covering the common errors that you may see when sending a competition to Golf Link.
Some of these errors may be caused by a temporary problem with Golf Link, some errors may be caused
by problems with your Tier 3 software and some may be caused by a problem with the data in the competition.
Competition/Server Timeout
A timeout occurs with the server when any given process takes longer than the specified maximum time to complete.
This error is most likely to occur when processing large competitions at times when the server is experiencing high
traffic (especially Saturday afternoon/evening). When you receive a timeout error the information you receive back
from Golf Link will often not include a CCR or any handicap adjustments.
In order to prevent this error from occurring you should try to send competitions at a time when the server is under
less of a load (very late at night for example; 8:30 – 10:30 is the best).
If you receive this error the first thing you should do is try to send the competition again (preferably at a time
with low server traffic). If doing this causes another error, most commonly duplicate competition, you will need to call us to assist you.
Duplicate Competition (Error 19)
A duplicate competition error occurs when the competition you are trying to send to Golf Link is already processed in Golf Link. This error
most commonly occurs after you receive a timeout error and attempt to re-send the competition to Golf Link.
When you receive this error you will need to contact us so that we can delete the competition from our system so that you can
successfully re-send the competition. Trying to re-send the competition without having us delete it first will not solve the problem.
Invalid Golf Union (Error 28)
An invalid golf union error indicates that one of the Golf Link numbers that has been entered into the competition belongs to a golfer of the
wrong gender. This most commonly occurs when a visitor misquotes their Golf Link number, for example a male golfer from another club accidentally
quotes a female golfer’s Golf Link number when playing in a competition at your club.
The best way to solve this is to :
1. Check all the visitors Golf Link numbers and ensure that all of the Golf Link numbers in the competition belong to the correct golfers.
2. Once you have found the incorrect number call the member or their home club and find their correct number for re-entry into the competition
3. Ensuring that you remove the incorrect number.
Phase Dialling Error/Send Socket Not Connected/Dial Up Failed Errors
All of these errors could be caused by a variety of reasons, some caused by your system and some caused by Golf Link. All of these errors mean that
you are not able to connect to the Golf Link server and as such cannot send your competition (these errors can occur when performing other Golf Link functions).
When you receive this error you should :
1. Attempt to connect to the internet via a normal webpage (for example, go to Google and search for something).
2. If your internet is not working you should contact your IT administrator or contact your internet provider (Bigpond, Optus etc).
3. If you internet is working you should check www.golflink.com.au.
a. If this site is working it is likely that the problem is with your system, you should contact your software provider and explain your problem
b. If this site is not working it is likely that the problem is at Golf Links end so you should contact us on the help desk.
Truncated Score/Handicap
This error usually means that one of the scores in the competition was too long. For example, someone has had a score entered as 0720 instead of 027 or 27.
This error could also mean that someone was entered with a handicap that was too long, such as a handicap of 270.
To solve this you simply need to find the golfer with the incorrect score or handicap and correct the error. You will then be able to close and send the competition.
Other Errors
There are a variety of other, less common errors that can occur while sending a competition to Golf Link that we have not covered here. If you experience one of these
other errors you should contact either your tier 3 software provider or the Golf Link helpdesk.
We hope you have found these weekly updates a useful service and we where hoping that we could get some feedback on how useful these updates have been and if there are anyways in which we could improve them.
